Sarracenia purpurea subsp. purpurea f. heterophylla (Albino/ All-Green Pitcher Plant) |
Viable seeds of Sarracenia purpurea subsp. purpurea f. heterophylla (Albino/ All-Green Pitcher Plant) – with full instructions for germination.
The heterophylla form of the hardy purpurea species is difficult to find and therefore rarely available for sale.
This rare, albino form has vibrant, lime-green pitchers with erect hoods with no red-colouration (due to no anthocyanins) ― making it a beautiful contrast alongside purple pitcher plants. Attractive soft-cream to yellow flowers are produced during spring.
These plants are carnivorous on insects, which are attracted to the sweet secretions of the pitchers, and once inside, often slip down into a pool of digestive enzymes.
Prefers growing within either sphagnum or peat mixes. Plants should always be sitting within a tray of water - changed daily if possible, with rainwater being best. In addition, they should be watered from above daily, to keep down salt levels and oxygenate the roots.
Hardy to -15ºC, but very low temperatures may cause the pitchers to die down until temperatures warm up, where they will grow back again fine.
Holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack
