Prunus serrulata (Japanese Flowering Cherry / Sakura Tree) |
Prunus serrulata is an incredibly beautiful, deciduous tree, native to Japan, China, Korea and Russia, growing to an eventual height of 15 – 35 ft.
During spring, lovely flowers are produced at the same time as emerging foliage, with five petals in a delicate white colour, often with subtle hints of pink. Thousands of people gather each year in Japan at world-famous cherry blossom festivals, a tradition called ‘Hanami’.
The smooth bark is chestnut-brown, with serrated foliage that transitions from green to shades of yellow, red and crimson during autumn.
Cherry blossoms, which are considered the national flower of Japan, herald the start of spring and symbolise life, good health, and happiness. Often called Sakaru trees, Sakura is the Japanese word for flowering cherry trees and cherry blossom.
Fully hardy to -20°C. This species is also suitable for growing as a bonsai tree.
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack.
