Pinus thunbergii - (Japanese Black Pine)

An elegant evergreen pine native to coastal regions of Japan and South Korea.  The species, "thunbergii", is in honour of the Swedish Botanist, Carl Peter Thunberg

Orange-yellow conical pollen cones appear in spring, developing into very attractive, rich-magenta seed cones

Resistant to pollution and salt, and very tolerant of poor nutrient-lacking soils, such as within its native range

One of the classic bonsai trees, with its slow growth and short needles. The trees are also strongly used within Japanese gardens as "Niwaki" trained trees

Hardy to around -23ºC (-9ºF) but requires a well-drained soil

Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack

Wait and see!

Seeds arrived in good time. Currently in fridge as per the instructions so now it's 'wait and see'.

Awaiting germination!

The seeds all look in good condition so hoping to get a good germination rate. Time will tell!

First Opinion and experiencies!

Hi Everyone, I have followed their instruction that I got and everything went well! I used a mixed loose soil with sphagnum. The seeds were soaked for 48 hours and after they were in a plastic bag in the soil in fridge for one month. After in this mixed soil I planted the seeds and one week later the seeds were sprouted. It was a very nice surprise! Thanks for the fresh seeds! Some seeds, unfortunately, thinned and died. Maybe it was a sickness! I do not know why. The rest remained. They live well and I'm waiting for the growing period :) This family company is very nice, kind and helpfull! I can only recommend them :)
