An elegant, small evergreen shrub from China and Japan of an upright, bamboo-like habit

 

Compound leaves, with pretty lanceolate leaflets which emerge a bright copper-red when young, turning green throughout summer, and turning colours of scarlet and purple in autumn and winter

 

Sprays of white flowers in summer followed by red berries in the autumn

 

Fully frost hardy to -18ºC (0ºF). Protect very young plants and seedlings from hard frosts initially

 

The Royal Horticultural Society has given this plant the Award of Garden Merit (AGM)

 GERMINATION INSTRUCTIONS

 

Nandina domestica 🌱 Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Sow seeds 1cm deep within propagation compost. Keep compost evenly moist at all times at 21-24°C (70-75°F). A heated propagator is ideal. Non-heated propagators can be placed within direct sunlight in a warm room to trap in heat and humidity. Once germinated, place seedlings within full sun; protect from frost for first year. Approx. germination time: from 60-90 days onwards.
