A deciduous tree native to China and East Asia, Taiwan and Indochina, growing to a height of 12 m (40 ft) and forming an oval or pyramidal shape.

Bright green, three-lobed leaves glisten in spring and summer — turning fiery oranges and reds during autumn.  

Will tolerate full sun to partial shade but prefers to be sheltered from harsh winds.

Fully Hardy to -23°C (-10°F) once established.

The trees are easy to keep small (if desired) with pruning.

Makes an excellent bonsai tree as the roots are very shallow and it is easily dwarfed.

Liquidambar formosana 🌱 Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Place in a zip-lock bag with lightly-moist propagation compost or vermiculite, then refrigerate for 30 days, opening & shaking the bag daily for aeration. Finally sow seeds 1cm deep within propagation compost. Keep compost evenly moist at all times at around 20°C (68°F). Alternatively, sow directly outdoors within autumn, allowing frosts to break seed dormancy.
