Fargesia yunnanensis (Syn. Borinda yunnanensis) - Umbrella Bamboo

A very rare, clumping and non-invasive large bamboo, growing to 5-9 m (16-30 ft) in height within temperate Europe

Native to montane forests between 1700 and 2500 m in southwestern Sichuan and Yunnan, China

Shoots and culms vary through growth from light-green to dark-green with shades of grey-blue

Leaves are long, narrow and weeping

Fully hardy to -20ºC (-4ºF) – keep on the drier side during frosts

Bamboo seeds are not always available due to worldwide shortages of most species; this is because they rarely flower, sometimes every 30 to even 100 years (called gregarious flowering)

Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack

1 out of 15 but worth it.

Quite difficult to germinate but we now have one large bamboo plant in the garden for 1.85 so it was a success.
