Eucalyptus deglupta - (Rainbow Eucalyptus / Mindanao Gum / Kamarere / Bagras Tree |
An extremely ornamental and fast-growing broadleaved tree and the only Eucalyptus indigenous to the Northern Hemisphere, growing throughout humid tropical forests of the Philippines, New Guinea and Indonesia. The trees are heavily used for pulpwood plantations for paper production within the Philippines.
The main feature of the tree is its impressive array of intense bark colours. The bark of the previous season peels off in time to display a multitude of bright colours underneath– with the bark eventually displaying all the colours of the rainbow, providing interest right the way through the year.
The lanceolate leaves are very aromatic when crushed and airy, bright white inflorescences are produced at various times of the year.
Growing to a height of around 100-125 ft in 30-40 years within the UK and temperate Europe, it should be planted within an open area and can grow up to 3 feet per growing season. Within the Tropics, it can reach heights of around 195–255 ft (60–78 m).
Hardy to around -7°C (19°F) once established. Protect using horticultural fleece or keep soil on the drier side during very cold snaps when young.
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack.
