Echium fastuosum (syn. Echium candicans) - Pride of Madeira |
A medium-sized shrub endemic to the island of Madeira, with grey-green foliage and beautifully striking blue flower spikes
Typically growing to around 4-6 feet in height, with the lance-shaped leaves growing to 15-25 cm (6-10 in) long, along with cylindrical spikes of flowers to 30cm (12in) long
When the soil is kept completely dry over the winter months, the plants have been known to survive temperatures down to -15ºC (5ºF), but when the soil is particularly wet plants can be damaged in prolonged (and especially hard) frosts. Horticultural fleece for colder areas of the UK is sensible
Ideal in sub tropical themed gardens and drought-tolerant gardens
Great for attracting bees, butterflies and birds
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack
