Dendrocalamus asper - (Giant Bamboo)

A giant, clumping bamboo native to Southeast Asia, forming dense clumps of up to 12-20 m (40–65 feet) in height within temperate Europe.  Its woody culms are 8-20 cm in diameter, with relatively thick walls (11-20 mm)

Clump-forming bamboo (non-invasive)

Green culms are covered in a fuzzy, velvet-like, grey-brown layer

Leaf-blades are lance-shaped and between 15-30 cm long and 10-25 mm wide. Lower culms show aerial roots from nodes

They grow well on various soil types, even on sandy and rather acid soils, but prefer well-drained, heavy soils

Hardy to around -3 ºC (25 ºF), sometimes colder, but the key is to keep the soil on the dry side during any frost

Bamboo seeds are not always available due to worldwide shortages of most species; this is because they rarely flower, sometimes only every 30 to even 100 years (called gregarious flowering)

Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack
