5-petalled and fragrant, pink flowers emerge on bare stems, weeks prior to leaves forming, during early to late spring (April to May within the UK) followed by yellow fruits
Growing to a maximum height of 6 m (20 ft) within open ground, it is also grown as a bonsai, where it will stay under 3-4 ft tall within a bonsai pot
Hardiness: -5°C / 23°F (within UK regions of colder summers) or -20°C / -4°F within southern areas of the UK experiencing the hottest summers; down as low as -28°C / -18°F within European regions that experience very long, hot summers
