Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata (Columbine / Granny's Bonnet)

Fresh seeds of Aquilegia vulgaris var. stellata (Columbine / Granny's Bonnet).

A wonderful, clump-forming, deciduous perennial, growing to approx. 60-75 cm tall (30-40 cm wide) producing masses of bell-shaped late-spring to early-summer flowers rising with natural grace above a low mound of ferny green foliage.

The fully-double, nodding flowers, usually formed from May to June, have spreading sepals and petals in rich colours surrounding delicate yellow-green eyes. The most prominent colours (pictured) are rich-wine red to deep maroon, lavender-pink and white, or an almost pure cream-white with flecks of raspberry-purple, along with luscious azure blue.

It is a plant that is both adored by florists for its beautiful cut flowers lasting at least 2 weeks, and also admired by garden designers for its brilliant colour, form and texture — making it a perfect accent plant. Looks great within any flower border, rock or alpine gardens, courtyard container gardens, cut-flower and country-style gardens — or amongst ornamental grasses and within wildflower meadow schemes.

Dead-heading faded flowers will promote additional blooms — and the plants also tend to self-seed.

Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack.
