Iberis amara (Bitter Wild Candytuft) |
Native to South-western Europe and North Africa, Iberis amara is thought to have originated on the rocky shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It is a highly-attractive annual herb (or occasionally a short-lived perennial) with an erect habit, growing to approx. 15–30 cm tall.
A spectacular corymb inflorescence, each bearing 10 to 30 beautiful flowers consisting of petals in pale shades of violet to bright white, are produced during spring and summer. The flowers are also fragrant and attract bees and other vital garden pollinators.
It makes a lovely addition to any flower bed or border, and is particularly well suited for cottage-styles gardens, or coastal and rockery gardens. The plant will appreciate full sun and good drainage.
It is frost hardy to around -10 °C (although it usually grows as an annual).
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack.
