Rhododendron schlippenbachii - (Royal Azalea) |
The Royal Azalea is a stunning deciduous shrub that is native to Korea, China, and Japan, growing to around 5m (17ft) and producing a beautiful display of flowers during spring and striking autumnal foliage colours.
Attractive and gently-scented, white-pink to darker pink flowers are produced just before the leaves emerge in late spring. Their sweet fragrance can fill a garden with a delightful aroma.
Its elliptical leaves are arranged in whorls, and grow to around 10cm long, emerging with purple and red tints when young, turning dark green over time. During autumn, it puts on a fantastic display of yellow, orange and red leaves.
It makes a perfect bonsai specimen as it is easily ‘dwarfed’ to less than a couple of feet tall within a bonsai pot.
Overall, Rhododendron schlippenbachii is a truly stunning plant that offers a range of exciting features, from its beautiful flowers and foliage to its hardy and low-maintenance nature.
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack.
