| Chaenomeles japonica - (Japanese Quince) |
A deciduous tree native to mountain woodlands within Japan.
5-petalled and fragrant, pink-red flowers emerge on bare stems, weeks prior to leaves forming, during early to late spring (March to May within the UK). Pollinated flowers often mature into fruits (green/yellow quinces) which are used for making tasty jellies.
Growing to a maximum height of 3 feet in height, it makes a wonderful bonsai tree — and it tends to stay even smaller within a shallow bonsai pot!
Fully hardy to -20°C / -4°F.
Tolerant of practically any type of soil or compost — and it is great for attracting bees, being so rich in nectar and pollen.
Please note: full germination instructions are printed on each pack.
